On the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the WHO declaration of smallpox eradication, the National Museum, the WHO Country Office in the Czech Republic and the National Medical Library Medical Museum organized the exhibition The Death of Smallpox. The exhibition was open in the National Museum in Prague from April 21 to October 17, 2010.
The exhibition commemorated the first victory over an infectious disease in history, as well as the important, internationally appreciated and, in this country, long ignored role of Czech and Slovak physicians in the eradication of the disease. Many of them participated in preparing the exhibition and were honored guests of the opening and the accompanying conference.
